Located in the Seattle suburb of Kenmore, this unbuilt project included 100 units of permanent supportive housing for low-income residents in studio and one-bedroom units, space for on-site case managers, a nurse’s office, an informal lounge space, a multipurpose gathering space, and retail space in five stories of wood-frame construction over a single-story concrete podium base. A central entry courtyard provides a welcoming entrance and outdoor gathering space for residents and the public.

After being submitted for permit and despite being fully funded by an organization with a 97% success rate in transitioning clients from homelessness to permanent housing, the project was abruptly canceled by the city after community opposition. This led to statewide legislation to limit municipalities’ abilities to arbitrarily block needed housing.

As the Project Architect, responsibilities included developing design responses to the owner’s requirements, overseeing schematic design through construction documents, and coordination with the owner, consultants, and the general contractor.

The project was submitted for an AIA Seattle honor award in 2024.
